There’s a LOT of legend and folklore when it comes to #BiblicalBabe of the week: Lilith. Most stories agree that she was the first wife of Adam, but after that, things get a little foggy...

“Lilith is the most notorious demon in Jewish tradition. In some sources, she is conceived of as the original woman, created even before Eve, and she is often presented as a thief of newborn infants. Lilith means “the night,” and she embodies the emotional and spiritual aspects of darkness: terror, sensuality, and unbridled freedom. More recently, she has come to represent the freedom of feminist women who no longer want to be “good girls.” - Rabbi Jill Hammer

Lilith represents a woman whom society cannot control! A wild woman who chooses her own sexual partners, who was not afraid to speak her mind!

A story from an anonymous medieval text, The Alphabet of Ben Sirach (possibly satirical), said that Lilith and Adam fought over who would be on top during sex, with Lilith saying, “We are equal to each other inasmuch as we were both created from the earth,” and then she bounced. At Adam’s request, G-d sent three angels to bring her back, but she refused.
